For those who appreciate slow excellence in a hurried and noisy world. Provis seeks to be a place where Craftsmanship, Beauty, Hospitality, and Stories still matter.
Why Provis?
Since launch, this is a question we have heard a few times, and it is one we love to answer! Short answer: the name Provis is a character from Charles Dickens' novel, Great Expectations.
But to be honest, the name signifies more than that one character or Dickens in general. Rather, the name signifies our love of stories. In fact, stories are one of the four values which drive Provis. If you have been around the coffee scene very long, you know there are many stories at play. Each coffee itself tells a story of farmers who produce them, roasters who prepare them, and baristas who brew them. Our customers come into the shop with their own stories. Our staff all carry stories that are meaningful to us. Provis is a place of stories. We want to press into this reality and play even a small part in the continuing of these worthwhile stories.
Our hope is that our café and our coffees will help you — as you journey in your own story — to keep going.
So, while Provis is a fun character in a fun novel — in the end, the name represents much more than that. It represents stories. Welcome to ours.

These four values mark everything we do here at Provis Coffee Roasters. From coffee selection, atmosphere in the café, how we treat our customers, what we prioritize, our staff, and more — all of it is done from a place of wanting to highlight these four values.
The Hound and Crown
We wanted to communicate a lot with our logo so allow us to point out a few features:
The Dog: Meet “Turk” — the hound of Provis Coffee. As we mentioned, Provis is named after a loveable character from Charles Dickens. A fun fact about Dickens is that he had a love of animals. He owned multiple ravens, dogs, cats, an eagle, and a horse. We knew we wanted our name to play into the literary feel of the café. At first, we thought the Provis icon was going to be a raven but like Dickens, our owners have a love of dogs and at the end of the day, a regal dog was the obvious choice. The name “Turk” comes from the name of Dickens' prized dog, a mastiff which was his best friend. We shifted towards a pointer for the breed in hopes to show the value of catching the beauty that others often miss. Similar to how pointers pick up on scents that others overlook, our aim at Provis is to catch the beauty of the ordinary which is easy to miss.
The Flag: In our logo, Turk is carrying a flag showcasing a crown. The crown represents Kansas City — the Royals, the Monarchs, Hallmark. We are proud to roast in this city.
The Cherries: Ringing the seal are coffee cherries — the fruit that makes any of this possible. A reminder that every bag started as a piece of fruit on a tree somewhere far from here.

Coffee is a craft and we want to treat it like one. We hope to honor the work of the farmers, roasters, and baristas by treating each cup as something worth doing with excellence. The small choices add up to a better cup.
Hospitality
We want to take the gatekeeping out of coffee. Our aim is to provide a coffee program where anyone from the beginner to the enthusiast can find something they love. We also want to provide a space conducive to being a third-space where customers can both work and have community.
Beauty
Beauty is baked into our culture and a significant part of the Provis identity. From the atmosphere of the shop, the cup of coffee, the experience from beginning to end feels elevated, thoughtful, and human. Beauty invites people to slow down and find the significance in the ordinary moments.
Stories
From our customers, our baristas, each coffee we offer, and even our name — everything we do at Provis is done with a love of stories. We want to offer a place where stories are valued and where new ones are written every day.
